What happened to lunch? Both dinner and brunch have earned their own set of loyalists, so where is the love for the midday affair? Well, food historian, Monica Askay, says, “[lunch began] as an accidental happening between meals.” In that case, it might be one of the most fortunate “accidents” to date!

Enjoying an afternoon out for lunch is a great Christmas gift idea for a unique set of reasons:

Lunch can happen on a regular day – Breakfast may escape us, and dinner may overwhelm, but lunch? It almost always happens. It’s exactly how lunch came to be. Lunch can be a practical, yet special occasion for someone who might work in an office, a friend you don’t often see, or of course, a fellow foodie!

Lunch is without pretence – It can be as upscale or as casual as you decide. Whether you meet up for fresh-fried fish & chips on Fisherman’s Wharf or for some Kuroge Waygu Beef in Gastown, just make sure the place you pick to eat in Vancouver is sure to impress.

The Express Lunch that we’re featuring as this week’s prize happens to be an ideal combination of luxury and practicality – the gourmet, 3-course experience of Jean-Georges, with the promise that your meal will be served in 50-minutes! VFT favourites include the Tuna Nicoise Salad, Black Truffle Fontina Pizza, and don’t even get me started on the cheesecake…

And finally, lunch can be shared – Have you found that the flip-side of gift-giving is the remorse of not having the gift yourself? Sigh. We’ve all been there. We love the idea of meals as gifts because, much like our Foodie Tours, you can join in, too!

Thanks for the read, foodies! Don’t forget to subscribe to our eNewsletter to get the inside scoop on what we’re serving next! If you’d like to enter to win our feature prize from Part 1 of our Holiday Gift Guide (a bag of single origin coffee + $20 gift card from JJ Bean), you have one more week to do so! Best of luck!
