Thanksgiving in Vancouver: 5 Foodie Blessings

 |  By

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend! It’s a time to celebrate all the things we’re thankful for, which, for many of us, includes indulging in a classic, food-coma-inducing meal! This year at VFT, we’re thankful for: the opportunity to showcase Vancouver’s multicultural culinary scene to foodies all around the world, our passionate team of guides that continues to grow, and for our hungry community of foodies, whose appetite inspires us each and every day!

At VFT, we love how food brings people together. This weekend will be no exception in Vancouver, as some of our favourite places have created special offerings, just for the season. For our foodies following us on Instagram, you’ll know that I spent the last week feasting in New Orleans, LA, so the photos below come from the social channels of the respective places!

Foodies, here are 5 (more) things to be grateful for this Thanksgiving:

1) Pies from The Pie Shoppe

Thanksgiving aside, you’ll want to add Vancouver’s smallest pie shop as a place to visit. The tiny room is run by two sisters who are undyingly passionate about pie. As soon as you enter the store, you’ll be confronted by the counter (where you pay and where they prep the pies) and a heavenly smell of sugar, fruit, and melted butter that is dreamy enough to knock you off your feet.

This weekend, The Pie Shoppe will be offering the Thanksgiving staples like Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie, in addition to a few twists. If you’re not a stickler for tradition, I implore you to bring the Salted Honey to Thanksgiving dinner – it a delicate honey custard that’s absolutely incredible!

2) Hubbub’s Holiday Turkey Sandwich

For a limited time only, our favourite Pulled Pork joint (as featured on our Guilty Pleasures Gourmet Tour) is featuring a Holiday Turkey Sandwich! It starts with pulled turkey, braised with one of our favourite local craft beers – 33 Acres of Life. Paired with a house made cranberry sauce, onion sage stuffing, mayo and arugula, they promise this sandwich will put you in the holiday season! As with all of their sandwiches, the item can also be ordered as a salad!

3) Rain or Shine Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream

…Does this need an explanation? In case you haven’t been here before, I’ll remind you that they make waffle cones in-house. On Tuesdays, they mould the waffle cones into taco shells, and suddenly Tuesday becomes your favourite day of the week.

4) Cartems Apple Pie Stuffie

If you’re flying solo this Thanksgiving weekend, don’t worry; there’s no need eat pie alone. (Although, no judgement.) Instead, indulge in this Apple Pie Stuffie from Cartems Donuterie – I doubt you’ll want to share!

5) The Swedish Ham at Oyama Sausage Company

If this list was sorted in terms of urgency, the Swedish Ham from Oyama would have topped the charts. You might recall Oyama from our Granville Island Market Tour – they are the most popular stop at the Public Market and are known to sell out of products before they even hit the shelves. They’re currently taking pre-orders (see their Facebook page for details) for their Swedish Hams and it’s totally worth the forethought. Not convinced? Swing by the shop – they’ve been sampling the ham at the counter over the last few weeks. But, you’ll need to put up those elbows and get in there quick! A blink of the eye and the whole platter is clean!

Ps. If the hammies are all sold out, save a turkey & eat a sausage! Our favourites include: chicken apple, duck with truffles, smoky scotch with fennel.

Happy Thanksgiving, Foodies! You give us so much to be thankful for. We hope you have an amazing weekend!
