Vancouver Street Eats: 3 Food Trucks to Hit on a Rainy Day

 |  By

While sit down restaurants can provide great ambiance and a chance to kick back, relax, and enjoy a meal; visiting a food truck at the corner of a busy intersection still carries a certain degree of charm. Perhaps it’s the convenience of walking up to a truck, paying a fraction of what you would pay at a restaurant, and leaving with your food in only a few minutes. Alternatively, it may be the informal aspect of the food truck that makes you feel more at ease. Regardless, almost every major city has food trucks and Vancouver is no exception. Let’s take a look at where Vancouver’s best street food is.

Mogu Japanese Street Eats

Japanese Street Eats Vancouver

If you are looking for a taste of West Coast inspired Japanese street eats, you must pay a visit to Mogu Japanese Street Eats. Located at Howe Street & Dunsmir Street, this food truck serves fast food with an exciting Japanese twist. The pork miso katsu, pulled chicken teriyaki, and kabocha karokke sandwiches are staple items on the menu. But what I really love here, is the chicken karaage, with light, yet super crispy breading which seals in all the juice and flavor, resulting in one of the most succulent piece of fried chicken you will have ever tasted! Brand new creations include the Asian poutine and the sake infused salmon chowder, the latter of which has become one of my favorite item at this charming cart.

Guanaco Salvadoran Food Truck

Guanaco Salvadorean Food Truck Vancouver

In Vancouver, it’s possible to take a trip around the culinary world to South America simply by walking around the block. Located at Seymour Street & Robson Street is the Guanaco Salvadoran Food Truck, one of the most highly rated street food vendors in Vancouver. Famous for its pupusa, a thick tortilla filled with cheese, pork, and beans; Guanaco has a constant line of customers throughout the day. This is worth the wait.

Soho Road Naan Kebab

Soho Road Naan Kebab VancouverJust around the block is Soho Road Naan Kebab, an Indian style food truck with some of the best naan bread Vancouver has to offer. Delectable menu items like the butter chicken naan kebab attract droves of hungry customers each day, rain or shine. Like all the popular food trucks in Vancouver, you should be prepared to wait a little for your food, and this is for a good reason. Soho Road takes its time to ensure every item is made with the utmost care, and this will be apparent once you take your first bite into that kebab.

If reading about these food trucks stirs up your appetite, you are not alone. Each year, thousands of food aficionados flock to Vancouver to try its cuisine, and street food is a very big component of the Vancouver experience. If you are unsure of where to begin, consider joining Vancouver Foodie Tours’ “World’s Best Street Eats Tour“, which features Vancouver’s best food carts including the ones that we introduced you to here.
