La Taqueria: Life is better when you taco

La Taqueria
322 W. Hastings or 2549 Cambie or…
on W 4th Avenue, conveniently parked beside Whole Foods!

I’m the type of foodie who would much rather eat small portions of many things, rather than a large portion of one item. For this reason, La Taqueria has always held a very special place in my heart. With double-bite, soft-shelled tacos, and a 4 for $9.50 pricing model, this modest “hole-in-the-wall” taco shop can’t be beat. I’ve been a loyalist to their crossroads location (Cambie and West Broadway) until this baby graced the streets of West 4th Ave.

A food truck. It literally stopped me in my tracks. My favourite tacos, parked in my neighbourhood. The taco gods are kind. I “stumbled upon” the stark white truck just after brunch, a tea, and a Lucky’s Doughnut, but, I really had no choice. I know a sign when I see it. So I ordered 4 meat tacos for $9.50 AND got a bonus 5th taco from mentioning their Facebook Word of the Day (Like their page, you won’t regret it!). For any veggie lovers, they do 4 meat-free tacos for a mere $7!

As an avid foodie, I love La Taqueria not only for their delicious tacos, but also for their active online presence. Check out their Twitter and Facebook – it doesn’t take long to realize that they love what they do, and that it makes their day when you love it, too! They consistently post/re-post pictures from fans and give daily shout-outs to their dedicated community. The weekly special is posted through their online channels as a reminder that something fresh and new is always waiting!  And, if we needed any more incentive to stop by, they have a social-media-only promotion for almost every day of the week.  It’s fun, engaging, and ultimately, better for their business. When that picture of a full plate of tacos hits your news feed, there’s not much else for your mind to focus on. Wanna see how it works? Scroll down.

And my bonus taco, the special of the week: Res en Salsa de Cascabel (free range beef in cascabel chilli sauce). Cascabel means Rattlesnake!

See what I mean? Whatever you were thinking about 5 seconds earlier has become unimportant.
I love the apparent innocence and simplicity in La Taqueria’s description on the “About” page of their website:

La Taqueria is born in 2009, through the idea of creating a pinche taco stand, which resemble the taste and feel of street tacos around Mexico. These tacos are usually the best and are often referred to as pinche tacos.

Haha. “These tacos are usually the best.” How cute. Yet, this really does capture the simplicity behind their menu and the sincerity of their food. It’s cheap, it’s fast, and it’s usually the best. Enough said.

The “cherry on top” at La Taqueria has a spicy, Mexican flare. They have a fleet of self-serve salsas and pickled vegetables so you can make your meal just right! Although I love spicy food, I actually really enjoy the taste of the mild, green salsa. Be warned: I’ve seen the “Hot” bring people to tears! But hey, it’s all part of the experience. Like it says on the front of their pinche truck – Life is better when you taco!
