Coming Soon to Robson Street: Maison Ladurée

Early this November, Vancity Buzz broke the news that the gourmet Paris bakery, Maison Ladurée, would soon be opening on Robson Street. While it’s unknown exactly how long foodies in Vancouver will have to wait for Ladurée’s doors to open, it’s a perfect time for us review exactly why we’re so excited…

What’s the big deal about Ladurée?

Maison Ladurée is a luxury French bakery that started on Rue Royal, Paris in 1862. In the early 1900’s, it’s said that Ladurée’s grandson was the first to think of sticking two macaron shells together with a creamy ganache – creating the iconic macaron that foodies know and love today.

What might surprise foodies is that Ladurée was purchased by Groupe Holder in 1993 – Groupe Holder also owns the PAUL chain in France!

Are Ladurée’s macarons really the best?

We’ll have to wait and see! No one can dispute the gourmet reputation of Maison Ladurée, but they enter the Vancouver market with stiff competition from local favourites like Café Thierry, Soirette, Bel Café, and Faubourg, to name a few!

Where else is Ladurée located?

You can find Ladurée on your foodie travels in Australia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Brazil, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, London, Monaco, Morocco, Panama, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, UAE, UK, and the USA. Vancouver will be Maison Ladurée’s first venture in Canada.
