Gastown Restaurants, Gastown Vancouver, Purebread

Purebread $$ | BAKERY
159 W Hastings St | 604-563-8060

Known for: Ridiculously amazing baked goods and Stumptown coffee. Sweet and savoury, this Whistler-borne bakery has truly mastered their craft!

Interior: A long, high-ceiling space in Gastown. Small tables and window seating. Wifi. A long counter with piles of baked goods runs along one side of the restaurant.

Tacofino $$ | MEXICAN

Known for: The best fried fish taco in the city. Epic nachos and churros made to perfection.

Interior: Warm, friendly and casual. Geometric patterns line the floors and seating. Twinkle lights add magic to the outdoor patio.

Tip: Enter from Blood Alley (back side) to access the restaurant, or on Cordova Street to take-out from their Burrito Bar!

 

L’Abbatoir $$$$ | FRENCH
217 Carrall St | 604-568-1701

Known for: West Coast French-inspired cuisine. A classic foodie destination with excellent service dinner and brunch service.

Interior: Brick and steel beams. Geometric tiles, brick walls, pendant lights. A secluded space holds a breathtaking long table for private events.

Bao Down $ | ASIAN FUSION

Known for: Asian rice flour pockets, packed “taco-style” with West Coast ingredients. The Bao Chicka Bao Bao is a favourite!

Interior: Compact lower level and loft-style upper eating. Order at the counter and jam to hip-hop while you wait.

Tip: After a few drinks in Gastown, Bao Down is a common place to visit for a late-night snack.

 

Peckinpah $$ | BARBEQUE

Known for: Slow-smoked meats and southern sides. Beer, bourbon and whisky tasting flights.

Interior: A compact dining room that is casual, and country rustic. At the restaurant entrance is a small patio for sunny summer days.

Meat and Bread $$ | SANDWICHES

Known for: Crispy, juicy, to-die-for porchetta sandwiches.

Interior: Casual & lively – long table seating. Hot lamps shine over the porchetta serving station.

Tip: Be prepared to wait – there’s a serious lunch crowd! Gastown restaurant closed on Sundays, but there’s another location at 1033 W Pender St!

Known for: Extensive beer list with full restaurant service. Juicy burgers and ultra-crispy chicken wings.

Interior: A large, lively, friendly, drinking hall. Upper and lower levels. A slender patio for hot summer days.
